Splendour Bender

See what I did there? SEE?!!

Ahem. In other news I went to Splendour in the Grass a week and a half ago (*pine*) and it was one of the most enjoyable weekends/festivals/friendship broadening experiences I've had in a while.

Bands I saw include :

  • Tim & Jean
  • Frightened Rabbit
  • School of Seven Bells
  • Foals
  • The Only (unfortunately)
  • Hot Chip
  • The Temper Trap
  • Ben Harper
  • Band of Skulls
  • The Drums
  • Bluejuice (With handmade Yeti suits and all!)
  • Tame Impala
  • Wolfmother
  • Florence and the Machine
  • The Strokes
  • Jac Stone
  • Boy & Bear
  • Cloud Control
  • Kid Kenobi
  • Jonsi
  • Goldrapp (parts of it)
  • Empire of the Sun
There were other bands we caught in passing like Scissor Sisters and K-os but I'm not going to remember them all.

I would also like to report that despite my biggest fears camping for 4 days was survivable and it didn't rain once! (it threatened before Wolfmother, but the weather knew better than to mess with Andrew Stockdale!) Gumboots were still required for the entire 4 days though.

Logistically speaking the layout was ok, although there was a LOT of walking involved. I don't think they took into consideration all the unfit, skinny jean wearing indie kids attending. Needless to say we had to scale what seemed like a mountain every morning and every night to enter and leave the festival.

My favourite act of the entire festival was by far Jonsi. His ability to hold notes for well over a minute (longer than the crow could cheer for him...twice) and his amazing vocals simply blew the entire audience away. His band knew exactly what to do and when, and watching them all swap around on different pianos and xylophones was really quite entertaining.

Surprisingly good act that really hit me was The Temper Trap joined onstage by a few members of Mumford and Sons. I am proud that Australia is still producing such wonderful talent. and needless to say their song "Sweet Disposition" went OFF.

I felt bad about my constant twitter and foursquare updates about where I was and who I was seeing. A few friends let jealousy get the better of them and told me they no longer wanted to know what fun I was having. Poor guys.

A small clip of the awesome set Jonsi did. I literally almost cried.
