Superhappyofficefunday!!!

So...for the first time since I started working here we're having a work function. On a weekend. Involving teams. And sport.

Now don't get me wrong, nothing excites me more than hanging out with accountants and other socially retarded people, but I can't help but think I should have tried to dodge this bullet. Dead relative? Important religious gathering? Cleaning and re-ordering my sock drawer?

Any and all of the above?

At any rate I get to spend 2 - 3 hours with people I see every day and attempt to have some sort of upper body strength in order to thrust a heavy ball down a waxed wooden alley and knock down 10 white wooden pins.(Are they even wooden anymore?)

This is going to be fun.

(If ANYONE comes up with a viable excuse why I can't make it, even if it's a last minute excuse I can text to my boss an hour before the blessed event, I will seriously love you forever)

In other news, something that's actually fun! My dearest Mumsy bought a Wii. That's right, dear little technologically disadvantaged mother purchased a big scary game console with big scary cords, and big scary controls. Guess who spent their entire lunch hour setting it up for her. :\

It was all made worth it just watching her and my sister try and bowl in Wii sports. Ahh the hilarity that ensued. I'm giving serious consideration to going round there tonight to watch my dad's attempt.

Perhaps there shall pictures to share with the big wide world.

Woot!

Weekend Shenanigans!

Monday once again! The weekends seem to be somewhat fleeting nowadays, made all the more so missed by the fact that they are spent HAVING FUN!

My weekend consisted of the following:

Climbing a tree with a workmate

Magical Mystery Tour

Getting lost out in the bush AND almost running out of petrol

Illegal waterhole swimming

Drawing in the trees

Eating someones dinner right under their nose...AND getting away with it

Superhappyphotoboothfun!!!

Sleeeep

The cutting and constructing of 12 new artwork collages http://xoxoxoe.deviantart.com/

sushiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

imitating my license photo

Miming along to a street busker singing Mr Brightside by The Killers IN PUBLIC

consuming copious amounts of dust through my mouth and nose

a load of washing

almost driving into a curb a HUGE DISGUSTING spider crawled over the front of my car and then tried to get in through the only crack in my window

and so forth

Le sigh...the only thing that has cheered me up today is meeting a senile old man in reception who said "you're a lovely looking lady who can make me a cup of tea!" LOL....senile.

Anyway I'll leave you with one of my masterpieces (for those who couldn't be bothered clicking my art link above...tsk tsk.)

Enjoy

Casual Friday!

That's right folks it's Casual Friday! after spending the entire week trying to think of something interesting to write about I've been reduced to talking about what I'm wearing today...I'm so sorry.
It's not so much what I'm wearing but what Casual Friday denotes that I'm going to ramble on about. Going back to the wonderful (sarcasm) days of high school, Casual Dress Day was the most stressful day any uncool gawky little nerd like myself could experience. "Where am I going to find COOL clothes to wear?" "Am I going to go down in history as the dorkiest dressed teenager ever?" and so forth. STRESS!
Needless to say Casual Dress day still holds the same stress for me now, but I'm coming to the acknowledgement that my work mates simply don't care what I'm wearing. Really, they don't give a fig. On average it takes me longer to get ready on Casual Friday because I'm trying to choose something that's appropriate, "cool" and will show my workmates what I'm really like outside of the office. And even though I now realise that they're accountants and they don't care or have very much fashion sense, I STILL go through the "what am I going to wear?" crisis.
So it usually gets me thinking about clothes and how they demonstrate to the world around us "who we are" and "what we like". My fashion sense is somewhat screwy, and I usually end up looking like some sort of "rock chick" even though I perceive myself as somewhat a mix of several genres. I spend a lot of time gawking at other people too, especially at shopping centres and public places of interest. This is not me admitting that I'm a freaky creeper, I merely take in what people are choosing to wear on any given day or occasion. A lot of the younger people are adopting the "indie" style and it leaves me wondering whether there will be any originality left one day. Everyone wears Ray bans, everyone wears converse shoes, everyone wears skinny jeans, plaid shirts, vests, boho headbands, the list goes on. And anyone who dares to show some originality in their wardrobe is either dissed and dismissed by the fashion world, or quickly copied and mass produced. I sometimes find myself caught up in the latest "cool" fashion trends but can't help but feel that I'm somewhat betraying my "inner self" (whoever THAT is). The HORROR!
Bleh. I don't honestly know why I'm ranting about fashion. It's not a passion of mine and it's not something I put very much thought into. I just think about it most of Casual Friday, when I freak out about my appearance the most and wonder what the world thinks of me.
Feel free to let me know what you think

New Moon Rising

No this not a blog about twilight or anything twilight related. So if you're an awkward and overly emotional teenager who is emphatically in love with some guy called "Edward" my advise is to stop reading now...

This blog IS about the concert I went to last night...that being the first gig of a national tour for Wolfmother. Now I like all types of music, and I've seen well over 40 bands to date...but one of my fondest gig memories is the first time I saw Wolfmother perform at the Brisbane Riverstage. Getting kicked in the face has never been so much fun!

So needless to say I re-lived some of those fond memories (with one of the original group I went with all those years ago) and yet again Wolfmother did not disappoint. Even with a new line-up (including one very good looking new guitarist!) their sound is still strong and they deliver a fine live performance. Nothing gets the kids more excited than the first few bars of "Woman".

Having a very survivable position in the mosh means I'm alive and well enough to tell the tale, and thankfully I didn't have to put up with too many drunken mingers trying to hook in. Eww. One thing I do have to mention is that the guy in front of me had THE MOST MAGNIFICENT HAIR I'VE EVER SEEN!!! My friend and I spent a good part of the night just entranced by it's aura, staring at it's perfect bounce and volume. I was even dared to touch it, which I actually achieved (*touch* to be read as, practically burying my face in it and smelling it) No I'm not a creeper I swear.Really.

Anyway song wise the set list was well awesome including the "classics" (Dimension, White Unicorn, Colossal, Mind's Eye and Woman) and some of the new material (New moon rising, Back round) from their album "Cosmic Egg" which drops next month.

All three times I've seen these guys they've closed with my all time favourite "Joker & the Thief" and it gets me EVERY time. My incredibly sore neck today is proof that I indeed rocked out with the best of them to that magic finale!

So needless to say I'm tired (lots of driving, lots of walking and lots of rocking out) but thankfully it's Friday. Friday 2.25 to be exact. 5 mins left of lunch and then 1-2 more hours of work...depending if I can sneak out at 4pm or not. (it's an option here....i LOVE my job!)

Good weekends to all!

Middle of the week blues

So instead of going outside and enjoying this blessing of a day I stayed inside (a more and more common activity for me lately) yes I stayed inside this hideously green colored, air conditioned, business tomb and stared at my monitors, trawling the Internet for entertainment. Sad I know.

BUT! thankfully enough I stumbled across a gem of a website I had earmarked a while back. I can promise that about 87% of those viewing it won't like it...so you know it's good, right!?!

It's a Tim Burton website with short stories and illustrations that I just adore, so if you're like me and bored out of your tiny skull have a look-see...

Enjoy!

Love...or something like it

So I went to a wedding yesterday where two of my best friends finally became husband and wifey. I must say I'm not the overly emotional type who bawls at weddings, but my left eye did have a bit of a session in the vows (which made recording rather awkward, my apologies about the quality of that section of tape)

I don't like being all philosophical about "finding the One" or "love at first sight", after my rather atrocious attempt at relationships I actually prefer nothing better than NOT thinking about such things. BUT considering this was a day celebrating THEIR love and not the lack of MINE it was a really enjoyable day.

After being to more weddings than I have fingers I was prepared for the usual love and marriage wah wah wah that goes on. But once I arrived and started with the hugging and the kissing of all my old family friends my cynical side took a backseat.

(This all sounds like such a clinical breakdown of such a beautiful event...BLEH!....but I don't want to be all gushy either.)

To put it shortly, I've never been to a wedding that has "felt" so much like the couple getting married and I've never in my life seen two people that have been more happy to be married. It was without a doubt the most perfect day for them.

I have to admit seeing my childhood friend get married was so weird! I still remember when we used to ride on one Rollerblade each down to the shops and dance in front of a crowd for money.(no shame) Having known the bride and groom very closely for so long it's easy to say I know them quite well, and there is no doubt in my mind that they are so very happy together which just adds to my joy for them.

So now I'm back at work after my wonderful jaunt in the countryside to witness the most romantic union I've ever seen and I can't help but think maybe true love does exist. If not for everyone at least for them. And I pray it is that way always and forever.

(Love to Dane and Girly, husband & wifey)

10 things you must to EVERY day

This advice can be taken as pure and simple FACT. (or for those who know me better and realise i make things up on a constant basis.....NOT FACT)

1. Make sure you get some 'me' time

(not me as in Poppet, YOU as in...you...otherwise you spending time on me is just weird)

2. Spend 20 minutes every day planning tomorrow with a detailed to do list

(seriously...only my MUM does things like this, personally I say save that time spent making your to do list and tomorrow will come quicker, in which you can fly by the seat of your pants!)

3. Drink three litres of water daily

(and spend the rest of your day running to the loo)

4. Take a nap in the afternoon to recharge

(Honestly the boss is NOT going to mind if you drool all over the clients financials)

5. Slow down - take some time to smell the roses

(if you don't have roses within your vicinity then you'll have to settle for any other flower type, local bakeries or the workmate next to you)

6. Do one thing every day that scares you

(I personally get this out of the way nice and early by looking into the mirror pre-makeup)

7. Do at least half on hour of exercise per day

(Scientists say that half an hour is just enough to make it seem as though you're sweaty/out of breath enough to seem as though you actually exercise more therefore attracting the opposite sex by exuding sweat/pheromones/look-at-me-I-exercise-smells)

8. Don't skip lunch

(because skipping is for little girls)

9. Be sure to get eight hours of sleep every night

(unless you're one of the 98,000 people who stay awake because of Twitter, Facebook, Ipods, barking dogs, insane neighbours or insomnia)

10. Check Facebook in case someone you don't like has updated about something you don't care about, in which case you can leave a lame comment about or simply "like"

Having all these things to do I've now realised I'm about 8 hours behind schedule and didn't plan yesterday what I was supposed to do today...!

Monday-itis

Most of us (especially the office workers out there) lament if not loathe Mondays. They signal the end of the blissful, at times domestic, weekend spent doing odd jobs around the house or for the clever folk, escaping from said domestic duties to the beach or some other desirable location.

That being said, the time space continuum being what it is, Monday's are inevitably...inevitable!

So if you're one of the millions who struggle through this workweek commencement spare a thought for others who don't have weekends to enjoy and escape, like Batman. Fighting off the likes of the Joker and....sharks....throughout the week non-stop!
I hope you enjoy and relish your Monday!

Family Photo Time!

http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com/

So some of my friends have been putting up links to this site. There have been claims of grown men crying over the hilarity/absurdity of the photos contained on this glorious web-gem.

I myself enjoyed it but having worked in a stuffy accountant's office for so many years my sense of humour whilst in the work place has somewhat diminished and therefore there was no crying with laughter on my part.

And if you want to see this little fella to the left and his oh so charming family I suggest you give this website a look-see! Nawwww!

OMG Blog!

Oh Hai! After reading about and admiring the many, many interesting folk on the interwebs who blog I decided that maybe I should give it a go! (please lower your expectations now)

Despite the fact that I am in fact employed full time I tend to spend a LOT of time browsing around finding things to look at on the web. SO! Maybe, just maybe I can culminate (big word of the day, use it wisely) all the grand things that I run my eyes over into one spot...?! Yes? (NO!)

Anyhoo, taking into consideration I'm new to this I ask for your mercy and kindness....and please if I'm boring/unacceptably uncool....just leave...just go man...just go.....
